 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬


Majorly, batteries are classified in to two types, such as, • Primary Batteries (Non-Rechargeable) • Secondary Batteries (Rechargeable) 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 Primary batteries are batteries which only can be discharged one time and then discarded. They are designed for one time use only. Below are some types of primary batteries. 1. Zinc-Carbon: Common, low cost, variety of sizes 2. Magnesium (Mg/MnO2): High capacity, long shelf life 3. Mercury (Zn/HgO): Higher capacity, long shelf life 4. Silver/Zinc (Zn/Ag2O): Highest capacity, costly, flat discharge 5. Li/Soluble Cathode: High energy density, wide temp range 6. Li/Solid Cathode: High energy density, low temp performance, long shelf life 7. Li/Solid Electrolyte: Low power, extremely long shelf life Usually, primary batteries are inexpensive, light-weight with low or no maintenance and convenient to use. These batteries often can be found in inside consumer electronic devices such as remote controls, lighting torches, wireless mouses, smoke detectors, garage door openers etc. 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 A secondary battery is also known as Rechargeable Battery since they can be electrically recharged after discharge. The chemical status of the electrochemical cells can be recharged to their original status by applying a reverse current as the electrochemical reaction is reversible. Below mentioned types are the four major secondary battery types. 1. Lead-Acid Batteries 𝘔𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘱𝘰𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘸𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴, 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘴, 𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 2. Nickel-Cadmium Batteries 𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦 𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘢 𝘸𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴. 𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘦𝘳. 3. Nickel-Metal Hydride Batteries 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘺. 4. Lithium-Ion Batteries 𝘚𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳 𝘤𝘺𝘤𝘭𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦.
